About Me

  • Played for the U of Redlands 1976 team, runner-up in the NAIA.
  • In five years of college-level coaching, I never had a losing season.
  • USPTA Professional, Level 3 Professional with MTMCA. M.S. in Phys. Ed.
  • 15-20 summers' worth of teaching mostly beginners and intermediates.
  • Patient, encouraging style.

I'm very serious about tennis teaching, but I realize that instructors needs to make the lessons FUN! If possible, I like to write a plan for all of my lessons out in advance. Am also an amateur piano player; partially fluent in French. The Positive Coaching Alliance has a very nice program for what we call Double-Goal Coaches. These are coaches who want to win, like anyone else, but also understand the need to teach kids about good sportsmanship, fair play, respecting one's opponents, teammates, teachers, and coaches. I own a two ball machines. I like to use video and a number of other tools to help the player make progress.
