More about tennis lessons in Lansing, MI

Close-Up: The Tennis Scene In Lansing, MI

As the state capital of Michigan, Lansing is home to numerous tennis opportunities. Most notably is the Michigan State University tennis center. MSU is a Big Ten Conference university, so it’s athletic program is top-notch. The school’s tennis center is open to the public and doesn’t require membership, instead offering “pay as you play” rates and discounts for MSU students, staff, and alum.

There is also a discount available for enrolling a second family member in a group tennis class. There are 20 courts as well as a pro shop. Private and semi-private lessons are offered as well as USTA adult leagues, but to find discounted lessons you'll want to book with a PlayYourCourt coach.

Court One Athletic Clubs is another extensive tennis program in Lansing. Adults can play casually as drop-ins or competitively with a travel team. Junior play starts at age 3, called “Quick Start,” and continues to high school players with the “Wolf Pack” tournament program. The club has 4 indoor courts and 4 outdoor courts, 4 of which are clay courts.

Court One’s Executive Director is Sue Selke. She had an impressive junior and collegiate record, including becoming a Big Ten Singles Champion three times in a row. She has been inducted in the MSU Athletic Hall of Fame as well as the USPTA Hall of Fame for teaching. She chairs the Midwest Adult Competition Committee.

Lansing has 13 additional public tennis courts.
