Close-Up: The Tennis Scene in Los Angeles, CA
With it’s perfect, sunny weather, it is no wonder why the City of Angels is one of the country’s biggest tennis hot-spots. Boasting consistently beautiful, dry, sunny weather with little-to-no-humidity, there is rarely ever a bad day to play tennis. As you can imagine, there’s quite a demand for tennis courts, as the city is home to tens of thousands of players and countless tennis leagues. Luckily, there are over 80 public tennis facilities operated by the parks and recreation department alone. Finding a court can be intimidating so we recommend using Tennis Round to select the court that is closest to you and reserve it. Simply go to the Tennis Round website and enter in the area you are looking for, then use their interactive map to zoom in on parks that are nearby.
Many a famous tennis player call Los Angeles home - Andy Roddick, Pete Sampras, VIctoria Azarenka, James Blake, to name just a few. Additionally, Los Angeles and the outlying areas have perhaps the greatest collection of collegiate tennis programs in such a small area. Featuring UCLA, USC, Pepperdine, UC Santa Barbara, and more, you can see some of the best collegiate tennis in the nation on all sides of the city!
With all the major tennis players and collegiate star athletes who call Los Angeles home, it's no wonder they have some of the best, most exclusive, and (of course) most expensive tennis clubs in the world. In fact, The Hollywood Reporter wrote an entire article on the top clubs in Hollywood. Coming in at number one is the Beverly Hills Tennis Club, where Justin Timberlake is a member. The Brentwood Country Club is a close second, and on their members list you'll find Reese Witherspoon and Jamie Lee Curtis. Remember, PlayYourCourt is an easier, more affordable option than joining pricey Los Angeles tennis clubs. Still, it never hurts to go pay to play at one every now and then and hope for a celebrity sighting!
